We’ve placed all the Awakening podcast episodes here on one page for those who want to listen to the entire series.
The Awakening Podcast series was created to give you the tools to live a more purposeful and peaceful life through the teachings of Ned Burwell, author of the book Be Love: A Book About Awakening.
Introduction: We introduce listeners to Ned Burwell through a riveting story about his struggles with depression, which led him to a suicidal state of mind. Thankfully, he met a wise and insightful doctor, who asked Ned a few key questions that would ultimately lead to his awakening.
In this session, we also discuss briefly why simply being happy isn’t realistic, and why being purposeful is the answer.
Session One – The Mind: Did you know that you experience up to 100,000 thoughts per day? Most of us wouldn’t either believe this statistic or realize that our minds are constantly being bombarded with thoughts to that degree. To add to this, a majority of those thoughts are negative. In this session, we explore the mind’s tendencies, how to better manage and use our minds, and why it is so important to simply be cognisant of the realities of what is going on with our mind from day to day.
Session Two – Beyond The Mind’s Desire: Do your desires serve your soul or do they serve your ego? It can be easy to become swept up by the temptations that life presents to us and fall victim to desires. We can also believe that happiness exists in the things we want, but the reality is that after we obtain these things, it is only a matter of time before our minds come up with the next thing to chase. If we have peace within, however, we no longer require temporary relief through the acquisition of thing after thing after thing.

Session Three – I Am Strong: How do we walk through our vulnerabilities? What lies beyond our fears? What happens when we pour devotion into our life? How do we become empowered? These are some questions that are answered in this session. This particular session contains some incredible wisdom to help us live beyond our fears and find ourselves in a far more empowered state.
Session Three: I Am Strong
Session Four – I Am Love: This is a fundamental chapter in this series. Sometimes it can feel nearly impossible to choose love when we are put in a challenging position. But what would happen if you chose love more often than not? You may be surprised how choosing love will illuminate the earth around you. This is a particularly powerful session that will leave you feeling energized.
Session Five – Awakening To The Moment: If we spend more time in our minds being distracted from the moment we are in, how much of life are we actually experiencing? It is absolutely essential that we live in the moment that we are in, the here and the now. This is the only way that we can fully experience life the way it was meant to unfold.
Session Five: Awakening To The Moment
Session Six – Relationships: Without question, this two-part section of the series will change your outlook on how to operate within relationships: not only in those you have with others, but more importantly in the relationship that you have with yourself. You cannot possibly love another person until you love yourself. Hence, Session Six, the first part of this two-part session, deals with creating a more loving relationship with yourself.
Part 1
Session Seven – Relationships: This is the second part of a two-part session on relationships. In Session Six, we looked at creating a healthier and more loving relationship with ourselves. This session then builds on that and goes on to discuss how to have a loving relationship with another person.

Part 2
Session Eight – Letting Go: The baggage that you carry from your life experiences can be the very thing that holds you back from living a purposeful and love-filled life. In this session, we ask why we are so willing to carry the weight of past traumas if they don’t help us to live a more peaceful life? This is a very heavy session, and personally one of my absolute favourites in this series. A lot of what is said in this session spoke to me on a very personal level and woke me up. I hope it does that for you too.
Session Nine – Finding Our Purpose: Have you ever wondered whether you are truly living a life that is purposefully yours? Are you using your heart to guide your decision-making and do what is right for you? Do you ever hold yourself to old standards aligned with how you used to be, rather than act based what you can become? Instead of saying “I can’t,” say “I will” and watch your world begin to change.
Session Ten – Unity: This is the longest episode in the series, and contains a wealth of stories and anecdotes from Ned’s own life. We discuss how people naturally try to see themselves in other people, and how this is one of the things that unites us with others. We discuss the value of looking for qualities in others that we ourselves value, striking up conversations in person rather than online, and living in the world rather than on social media. This episode contains many interesting observations about the society we live in, and will inspire listeners to begin making their own observations.
Session Eleven – Meditation: Is it a practice or a study? How do we meditate? What are the benefits to it? Can anyone do it? Is it even real? These are all very valid questions that Ned had about meditation; I had heard so much about it but had never spent much time with it. Ned now has a great deal of experience with mediation. In this session, he shares some helpful tools for those who are new to meditation and dispels some of the myths surrounding the practice.
Session Twelve – The Creative Side of the Soul: Both Ned and Lisa feel that this is one of the more far-reaching and compelling episodes of the series. Here, Ned discusses his views on creativity and how it works. This is a lengthy and somewhat challenging session, so grab a cup of tea, pull up a chair, and strap in for a fascinating ride.
Session Thirteen – Free Will vs Willingness: This is the second-last session in the series, and by now listeners are probably beginning to grasp the depth of the concepts that have been discussed and understand how their own lives can be changed. Now, there really is only one thing left to understand, and that is whether are willing to surrender the will of your mind and accept the will of your soul. You may feel like a brand-new person after hearing these sessions, but we all know that old habits and beliefs are hard to shed. So be patient: you will have a lot of sideways movement, backward movement, and of course, forward movement on your trek to enlightenment. This session reassures listeners that this is perfectly okay and to be expected.
Session Fourteen – After the Awakening: In this final session of the series, we recap what an awakening is and what life CAN be like. Work towards being love. Put love into your life and everything around it. Set down the burdens of your past, and welcome your future. Life is a wonderful gift.
